Serlian Barreto's paintings pay homage to his grandfather while exploring nature and invisible entities within globalized contexts. The Carbon (Coal) series functions as "a literary chronicle, where each work resembles a notebook that contains an exquisite description of the process: from the collection of dry leaves, logs and snails, to the conception in the oven." The series title remains unrepresented within the works themselves.
Barreto's aesthetic draws from artists like David Hockney, Hernan Bas, and Enrique Martínez Celaya, employing contemporary perspective and brushwork to create paintings that appear incomplete, positioning viewers as active participants completing "these sensory gaps."
