White Layers draws inspiration from "Las capas," Eloy Costa's short story about a character obsessed with hiding wall color by accumulating layers of paint until he is trapped "amongst the bright light, within the white bulk."
The exhibition explores layering as both material technique and emotional concept, examining how artists across disciplines have used superimposition throughout history — from Paleolithic palimpsests to Renaissance painting to fashion's social stratification. The featured artists interpret Costa's themes by investigating impossible spaces and white's varied expressions through painting, paper work, mixed media, and sculpture.
Featured artists: Pavel Acosta, Ariamna Contino, Raúl Díaz, León Ferrari, José Manuel Fors, Reynier Leyva Novo, Elsa Mora, Ronald Morán, Carolina Sardi, and José A. Toirac.
Curated by Claudia Taboada and Ross Karlan.
